Stampin' Up! Masculine Sympathy Card Idea and a great Stampin' Up! Colour Combination for Men.

Hello friends. Today I am sharing a masculine sympathy card idea using Stampin' Up! products from the 2020-2021 Stampin' Up! catalogue. Sympathy cards are difficult to make at the best of times, but coming up with ideas for sympathy cards for men can be even more challenging.

I chose to keep my card simple and classic, use colours that felt masculine to me, and feature the sentiment in a small cluster of die cuts. The sentiments are from the Well Said stamp set, and the stems are from the coordinating Well Written Dies. The heart is from the Detailed Hearts Die.

I really love how the colour combination turned out for this card. Misty Moonlight and Cinnamon Cider are my two favourites of the 2020-22 InColours, and they look great together for masculine cards.

I have used the Subtle Embossing Folder again. I seem to use it in on so many cards these days. It's really classic.

Art With Heart Team March Creative Showcase: Monochromatic Cards

AWHT Showcase Logo Rectangle

Welcome to the March Art with Heart Stampin' Up! Team Creative Showcase. This month the Art With Heart Team are featuring Monochromatic cards, that is cards that only use different shades of the same colour. This is a great opportunity for us to demonstrate the wonderful range of Stampin’ Up! colours across our inks, papers and embellishments that can be combined to produce the amazing monochromatic samples we have to share with you. To be honest, I found this quite challenging as I am so used to creating with multiple colours.

Here's what I came up with using Rooted in Nature stamp set from the Annual Catalogue. I didn't realise my sentiment wasn't wonky until I edited the pictures, so another post photo correction (I'm on a roll the last week!).

This card is for a lovely man, who lost his wife of 50+ years last week. His wife was a lovely lady, with family values that I admired greatly, I can't imagine his feeling of loss, but I hope my words provide comfort in the months to come.

Here are the steps I took to make my card:

  1. I started with a piece of Shimmery White cardstock 10cm x 14.3cm.
  2. Using a Stampin' Sponge, I started lightly building up colour by spongeing in a circular motion. I started with Soft Sea Foam at the top, then Pear Pizazz and then Old Olive. I wanted the look of a hill which is why I sponged on an angle in a soft curve.
  3. As I was spongeing and going over the edges, this also provided some ink definition on the edges which I liked.
  4. Using an aquapainter, I squeezed a little water from the nib onto some scrap cloth, then flicked the excess off as I didn't want the drops too large. Then I flicked a couple of times onto the sponged piece to create the droplet effect.
  5. I stamped the tree from Rooted in Nature once in Mossy Meadow, and then again without reinking.
  6. My words are stamped in Old Olive onto some scrap Shimmery White which has been lightly sponged,
  7. Finally I tied a little linen thread around the bottom of the card and secured with tape on the back.
  8. I then adhered the whole cardfront onto a base Mossy Meadow card.

Before I made the card above, I came up with this one for my Monochromatic card. I wasn't 100% happy, so I made another card, but thought I would post this one too. I think I would use it as a retirement card for a male perhaps?

This card uses the Timeless Tropical bundle. I have used Crumb Cake, Soft Suede and Early Espresso.

My projects feature a beautiful new Designer Paper called Mosaic Mood. This paper pack didn't immediately jump out at me in the catalogue, but then we received a pack as an all attendee give away on the last day of Onstage. Once opening the pack, the beautiful colours jumped right out at me, as did the clear embossed parts which add beautiful texture and interest. It's a really pretty 12 x 12 paper pack.

I have used the paper to make two cards for some friends that needed a virtual hug recently. There are lots of beautiful floral mosaic images to cut from the paper, and I used those as the feature of my cards.

For some added interest on this first card, I embossed one of the layers with the Subtle embossing folder, which gives a beautiful textured but subtle effect. I also did some very light stamping on the base card (the leaf image is from Healing Hugs stamp set). My greeting on this card is from a set carrying over into the new 2019 Annual Catalogue, called Flourishing Phrases. The inside sentiment says 'with warmth and caring from me'. The greeting on the front of the card fit's nicely in one of the stitched circles from the Stitched Shapes die set. This is one of my most used die sets because it has ovals, squares and circles in the one pack.

As you can see, there's a range of beautiful colours in this paper. The catalogue tells me that the coordinating colours are: Blushing Bride. Crushed Curry, Garden Green, Mint Macaron, Soft Suede, Terracotta Tile, Very Vanilla and Whisper White. I adapted that a little and used the following colours to give my cards a soft pastel look:

Claire's Stampin' Up! Colour Combination: Blushing Bride, Mint Macaron, Soft Sea Foam, So SaffronI haven't used So Saffron in what feels like forever, but I think it works really well with this new Mosaic Mood Designer Series Paper. The greeting I have used on this card is from Healing Hugs, another set carrying over to the 2019 Annual Catalogue.

I've used the Stitched Rectangle Dies, and the Stitched Labels dies for the layers of my greeting. I do like my stitched dies, and any interesting shapes I can use for stamping greetings or layering. This large stitched label is one of my favourite dies.

Week 13 AWH Colour Creations Blog Hop - Crumb Cake

Crumb Cake

Crumb cake 2

Today's card is one of the hard cards we need to make, a sympathy card. Words really are never enough, but they are important to say to the people you care about. I don't think there is any better way to say those words from afar, than with a handmade card.

Stampin Up Rooted in Nature 2018 sympathy card. Claire Daly Stampin Up Demonstrator Melbourne Australia

I have used the Rooted in Nature stamp set from the 2018 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue.  I created a water wash onto Shimmery White cardstock with a few drops of re-inker and my aquapainter. I used Crumb Cake for the ground, and Pool Party for the sky and Shaded Spruce for the tree. I added a few ink splatters and water splatters for added interest.

The sentiment is also from the Rooted in Nature stamp set, and is stamped in Soft Suede to stand out a little more against the Crumb Cake. Here is my colour combination.

I hope the recipient of this card can feel the love and caring thoughts for them that it hopefully conveys.

Now it's time to head back to Catherine Proctor's blog  to see what the other Art With Heart team ladies have been creating with Crumb Cake this week.

Stampin' Up! Lovely as a Tree with Brusho Micropowders

Today I decided to show you another card with Brusho, this time a sympathy or get well card using Stampin' Up! Lovely as a Tree. I have used the Gamboge pot of Brusho for this card.

Brusho 1

I really love the effect I got with the Brusho as a bright sky or sunset. I am not sure how that small circular gap happened but I quite like that it did, as it kind of looks like a sun or moon. I did the Brusho piece first (again just sprinkling Brusho onto the watercolor paper which I had sprayed a few times with a water mister). When that was dry, I over stamped the Brusho with the the image from Lovely as Tree stamp set using Early Espresso ink. My greeting is from Flourishing Phrases stamp set. I have used  the 1 3/4" circle punch for the greeting and then cut a 2" circle from Copper Foil Cardstock to mat it (I used the Circle Layering Framelits for this step). I carried the Copper Foil Cardstock mat to the stamped image too, and the base card is just Early Espresso.

Brisho 1a

Here's a bit more about how to use Brusho. You can purchase it in my online store using the links at the end of the post.

Have fun playing with Brusho.
