Your Creative Connection 102: Fresh From the Garden
February 26, 2020
Welcome to our second Your Creative Connection global Stampin' Up! showcase. For YCC102, our theme is Fresh From The Garden (can you tell I picked the theme this time?).
A little background to this week's theme and stamp set choice. I love everything about gardens, but my absolutely favourite things is growing things I can eat, or pick for fresh flowers in the house, A couple of years ago at a garden show I picked up a couple of Dahlia bulbs to throw in my garden and growing them has made me so happy! They say everything old is new again, and I definitely think that is the case with Dahlia's. Here's a few I have grown in my garden. They are very easy to grow and bring me lots of joy in the summer months.
I have chosen the Positive Thoughts stamp set from the 2020 Stampin' Up! January to June mini catalogue. I love the Dahlia image, but there is also some great additional imagery in the stamps, and the coordinating Natures Thoughts dies (only available until March 30th) have some additional pieces for layering, borders and texture.
One of the things you will notice about Dahlia's is there is often variation in colour in the petals. To achieve that in my flowers, I inked up the stamp in Grapefruit Grove for one of the flowers and So Saffron for the second Flower. I then used a sponge dauber to sponge a little Rococo Rose onto the flower edges. To add some framing for my floral layering, I stamped some of the ferns in Crumb Cake ink (stamped off once) onto the base Crumb Cake card. My main fern is in Old Olive, greeting in Rococo Rose and that lovely lace like border is die cut from the Natures Thoughts dies in Soft Sea Foam cardstock.
I hope my creation today has inspired you some way, whether that be in the garden or in the craft room! Both bring me happiness and peace :)
I'm excited to travel around the world, and see what my YCC global friends have created this week for us.Next up is the lovely Dawn Olchefske in Minnesota USA. Enjoy your flight!

My aunt lives near a dahlia farm and I was fortunate enough to be at her house when they were in bloom—acres and acres of all different sized and colored dahlias! It was a little slice of heaven on earth! Love your card! I will think of dahlia gardens when I use that set now!
