Creating your own Background

Just wanted to show you all a subtle way of creating a background for your layout, that doesn't take away from your photos.

If your into embossing, I'm sure you will already have one of these...

VersaMark is a must for any scrapbooker, of any experience level.There so many different things you can use it for, but today I am displaying it's most basic Watermark technique.

It is as simple as dabbing your stamp into the sticky pad and stamping away.

Here is my layout....

Ingredients Used:

Stamps: Big Deal Alphabet, Calender Alphabet & Numbers

Ink: Versamark

Cardstock: Kraft

Designer Series Paper: Kaleidoscope (Summer Mini)

Accessories: Stampin' Write Marker (Not Quite Navy, Creamy Caramel), Brads, Embossing Power (clear), Hemp Twine, Paper Piercing Tool

Adhesive: Stampin' Dimensionals, Tombo Mono Glue

Baby book mini album

Hi all, one of my close friends recently announced she was pregnant. She is to be a first time mum and it got me to thinking, if she is anything like I was when I was pregnant she is bound to have preggo brain. Not to mention all the 'questions' you have and many new items you have to buy in preparation for the baby. This is how my baby book mini album came about.

The front page features weaved paper inside the baby sweet treat cup rattle as a delicate touch (just like newborns!)

 
Inside the 'book' is 4 sections to store information; appointment cards, questions to ask, receipts and ultrasound pictures.

Ink: Close to cocoa, riding hood red, pink pirouette, sahara sand, versamark

Cardstock: Very vanilla, pink pirouette, riding hood red

Punches: Wide oval, 1 3/4" circle (summer mini catalogue), eyelet border, corner rounder

Scrapbooking with your Sale-a-bration stamps

I love it when Sale-a-bration hits us, not only do the customers get an awesome deal but as a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, we too can get those amazing free sets.

Today I want to show you a layout made with the Vintage Labels, Sale-a-bration set

Don't you just love that set??

To create this background paper was simple and fun!!

You will need:

Glossy White Paper (page 130 Ideas Book & Catalogue)

Ink Refills

Colour Spritzer Tool

Small spray bottle with water

Apply a couple drops of different inks around your sheet of Glossy paper.

Spritz a few times with the water (not too close or too many, as this makes it run an awful lot).

Working quickly, grab your Colour Spritzer Tool, squeeze over the watered down drops of ink and watch them spread.

You can make the design go in all different directions depending on which angle you use the Colour Spritzer Tool.

This look is great fun teenage layouts and is fun for the kids to do also.

I would love it if you would give it a go...it is so much fun. But I would recommend putting some extra scrap paper behind your layout incase it seeps through.

Ingredients used:

Stamps: Vintage Labels (Sale-a-bration), Frames with a Fourish

Cardstock: Glossy White, Pretty in Pink, Whisper White

Inks/Refills: Basic Grey, Pretty in Pink, Pink Passion, Tempting Turquoise, Night of Navy

Punches: Scallop circle, Curly Label, Wide Oval, 1 1/4 Circle 1 3/4 Circle (summer mini)

Accessories: Stampin Write Journaller, Uniball Signo Gel Pen (white)

Tools: Colour Spitzer Tool.

First day of school

My eldest daughter recently had her first day of school. I had lots of photos and wanted to included as many as possible without the layout looking overwhelmed. I used the leftover chipboard frame which is the same recycling and cost saving approach I used when creating this layout.

I also had Nikki write "Nikki's" so they layout reads "Nikki's first day of school". I treasure her handwriting (as she used to write her name as Niffi). She was also skeptical about writting the "s" on the end of Nikki's as she had never written it before and I am so proud of her effort.

 

I coloured my chipboard letters in using night of navy marker before using a sponge dauber to apply a darker layer of ink. (I have previously tried inking letters with only a sponge dauber and inkpad but wasn’t happy with the result.)

With my daughter’s school dress, she received a “scrunchie” hair elastic made from the same fabric as her uniform. I cut the scrunchie up to add to my layout (thankfully she has a spare one so I won’t have to hear her wailing that I cut up her ONLY hair elastic!)

Cardstock: Bravo burgundy, whisper white

Accessories: loads of letters chipboard, lots of letters chipboard (chipboard frame), crystal effects, night of navy stampin’ write marker

Flowers... on a boy layout???

Flowers... on a boy layout? Yes, you read right. I usually find it hard to incorporate flowers (and pink) onto a male layout. However, this photo made it easy for me. Not only are there flowers on my son’s shorts but also a pink ball in the foreground. In embracing these “traditional” feminine features is how I came up with today’s layout.

Note: I have had a few questions asking how I did the background and the flowers...

The background- it is a text typed onto watercolour paper and coloured with so saffron inkpad and sponge dauber.

The flowers - technique called faux watercolouring. Stamp image in versamark (onto watercolour paper) and emboss with either white or black embossing powder. Spray watercolour paper with a few sprays of water and using an aqua painter and re-inkers pick up the colour of the re-inkers and touch the watercolour paper (with the aqua painter). As soon as the aqua painter touches the watercolour paper the colour spreads. Repeat with various colours if desired. Allow image to dry and cut out image.

Punches: 1 ¼” circle, 1 3/8” circle, round tab

Adult male layout - Movember

My darling hubby can be a little bit lazy at times and this layout is about that and Movember.... Funnily enough, the two go hand in hand... No shaving for month (laziness) plus raising money for a good cause.

I really love our kraft cardstock but struggle with it not being 8.5" x 11" at times when I am creating a layout. A simple way I found around this, is by having the date hanging off your page slightly, like I have done on my layout (or some other element) and it fills up the space of 8.5" x 11" and will fit nicely in a page protector.

Journaling reads:

Movember, (the month formerly known as November) is a moustache growing charity event held during November each year. Movember’s objective is to improve the state of men’s health. This is achieved by:

 

1.    Generating awareness surrounding men’s health issues, specifically prostate cancer and depression in men.

2.    Raising funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue: the national depression initiative so they may better achieve their goals and improve the state of men’s health.

3.    Changing the way men think about, discuss and treat their own health issues.

Daddy and Uncle Warren officially began celebrating “Movember” a few years ago, mainly because they were too lazy to shave.  Not quite the reason “Movember” begun but certainly a good cause (celebrating depression) not laziness.

This year, Daddy was long awaiting the end of November as he was over “Movember” and wanting to shave.

December daily

For years, I have been thinking about creating a mini album full of photos and journaling about our family activities in December. (I have previously created a calender layout) but this year I actually bit the bullet and begun my December daily mini album.

I begun with a word document where I am journaling things for each day and when I get time to work on the pages, I slowly add to the album.

This entry I am showing you is from Day 2 of my album and it is on two different pages. One is a "peek a boo" style page and the other obviously has all the information on it.

Daddy finished overtime early and went to bed late while Josh was at school. Everyone else went to Grandpa’s so I could do some computer work while visiting. Nikki, Drew and Bella had fun riding bikes around Grandpa’s property and running around but most of all loved the warm weather and the time spent in his pool (outdoor spa). Raced home (minus Nikki who was having a sleepover) to pick Josh and Callum up from school, but was running late so woke up Daddy (via phone) to pick the boys up.

Simple birthday thanks stamp

Today I have created a mini layout (6 x 6) for my SIL to hang on a frame my hubby made for her. It is part of an overall display of layouts for her to change ever so often to vary the pictures in her home. The photo is of my niece on her first birthday look a little overwhelmed at all the attention etc. Hence the reason for no journaling.

When I got my simple birthday thanks stamp, I actually took a craft knife to it *gasp!* Yes, I know I was attacking a perfectly good stamp. I cut the wording saying "thanks..." out so that I can stamp the stamp without have to mask or use markers to on ink the cake shape. I will use it more often this way than if I had of left the wording in.

Cutting the rubber and "modifying the stamp" DOES VOID that 90 return policy that Stampin' Up! offers with their products.

I have crimped the base of the cupcake to make it look like a patty pan wrapper and add dimension to the layout. Raising the "icing" with stampin' dimensionals and applying a layer of crystal affects to the cherry also helps add to the realism of the cake.

Ribbon: Riding Hood Red Taffeta, Linen Thread

Accessories: Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker,  Corduroy Buttons, Button Bouquet Designer Buttons, Clear Embossing powder, Versamark, Crystal Effects, Crimper,On Board Loads of Letters

Adhesive: Stampin' Dimensionals, Tombo Mono Glue

To create this flower on the right...

I stamped the image a few times on the Designer Series paper using our Black Stazon ink. Then cut out portions of the flower which I wanted to stand out and adhered them onto of one of your full stamped images with Stampin' Dimensionals. I had to trim the some of the Stampin' Dimensionals to use on the smaller pieces of paper. Lastly I used a thick layer of Crystal Effects (this is why I used Stazon ink, as it won't run) and allowed it to dry overnight (to be on the safe side). I did not wrinkle and is now a very strong embellishment.

And also just a note...I used CLEAR embossing powder on the Damask stamp from the Friends 24-7 stamp set, to create this pattern on the Basic Black cardstock.

So that's just a few different little ideas you can give a whirl at home....

Week in review

My layout today is a very simple one featuring notes I made about a week almost two years ago. The layout is actually part of a whole album called "52 weeks of us" where I have journaled for an entire year and taken photos each week to support my journaling. I have kept the layout very simple as I want the whole album to have a similar look and I want to be able to get through the pages easily. My original intention when starting this project was to complete a page a week, but life got in the way and almost two years later I am working on week 5!

I coloured in my chipboard roughly with a basic black watercolour crayon and sanded away some of the colour so it blended in and was to represent the ink my son put on his face.

Journaling reads:

First psychiatrist appointment, medication, Lovan (doubled to 40mg daily) and given new medication, Epilim (200mg) to also try.

Held my first Stampin’ Up! Workshop for the year.

Nikki begun kinder at childcare on Thursdays and the kids had the last Wednesday at childcare.

Josh had his interview at 4 year old kinder and his new teacher is Miss B.

Drew found my staz on ink and covered his face and ear.

Bella had a sleep over at Aunty Didi’s and was a perfect baby, sleeping from 10pm – 6.30am.

Quotable moments from the kids this week...

Josh, Nikki & Drew all came up with unorthodox way of saying chiropractor (after being told that Mummy had an appointment):
Josh – chiorpractor
Nikki – cryapractor
Drew – priocrack

How Josh currently says his ABC’s:
