Sue lives in Melbourne with her husband John and two young children - Hannah and Jack. She enjoys photography and her camera is never far from hand. She loves recording family stories and snippets of day to day life, and thinks she has always been a scrapbooker at heart. The same good friend that invited her along to a scrapbooking workshop in 2002 and got her completely hooked on the hobby, also introduced her to Stampin' Up! when she hosted a stamping workshop in 2008. She's not game to visit in case Sue's hubby gives her the credit card bill!
Sue took one look at the Stampin' Up! catalogue and got the paperwork to sign up as a demonstrator. She was previously a primary school teacher and enjoys running craft classes from home and helping people escape the day to day routine with a bit of creative time. Her growing team of demonstrators is known as Think Ink, and Sue says the friendships she's built with her team members, other demonstrators, customers and her class regulars has been one of the best things about her Stampin' Up! journey so far.
We asked Sue some questions about her scrapbooking and Stampin' Up!
Can you show us a favourite layout?
I love this layout as it includes all the things that I most love about scrapbooking - the photos and the stories. A photo that captures my daughter's gorgeous smile and the sparkle of her personality, plus a funny quote I jotted on a post it note. This moment would have been long forgotten but scribbling it down and finding some time to put it onto a layout means we can laugh about it years later. That is what makes scrapbooking more than just a hobby, but a passion.
It is a simple design which didn't take me long, and that's mostly the sort of scrapbooking I like to do just now when so much of the day is spent on being a mum, as well as keeping the household ticking along smoothly and running my much loved stamping business. My scrapbooking time is my quiet time to create and just be me.
How would you describe your scrapbook space?
It quite often bears a remarkable resemblance to our dining table - grin! I do have a craft desk, bookcase and gorgeous built in wardrobe in our study, however it is usually in serious need of a declutter so I often work out in the family area where I can spread out. One day I'll succeed in making my craft space resemble those gorgeous areas I see in the craft magazines!
What's your fave Stampin' Up! colour combination for scrapbooking?
Hard to narrow it down but I do really love using Night of Navy with colours such as Close To Cocoa or Kraft or Very Vanilla. Real Red is another favourite. I love our textured cardstock for scrapbooking - that texture really adds something to a layout.
Fave thing to eat or drink when you are scrapbooking?
Something with caffeine as I often scrapbook in the wee hours when the kids are asleep and the house is quiet. The biscuit barrel can often be found near my scrapping supplies! A glass of chilled white on a Friday evening relaxing in my craft area is always nice too.
Who are your main scrapbook subjects?
Definitely my two munchkins - Hannah and Jack. John and myself and family and friends get a bit of a look in every now and then! I love to occasionally dig out some old photos from when I was young too and jot down some stories to go with them.
How would you describe your scrapbooking style?
I do love clean simple page layouts, although between you and me - that might just be due to the fact that I often work in short bursts of time and don't like to spend too long on a page on most occasions! Sounds better to say I embrace clean and simple than that I'm a bit of a lazy scrapper though hey! Every now and then I try for a less structured, more creative or artistic approach to a layout, but my inner neat freak comes along and straightens everything up again usually!
If I had an uninterrupted weekend of scrapbooking by myself this weekend I would work on ...
Aaaaah what a blissful thought! With a weekend of scrapbooking I'd make a bit of a start on transferring all of the layout ideas that are whirling around in my head onto album pages! Actually that might take an uninterrupted year so I think I'd just head to my massive box of photos and pick out something that caught my eye. I love photography and love to start my scrapbooking session with a favourite photo.
