Creating your own Background

Just wanted to show you all a subtle way of creating a background for your layout, that doesn't take away from your photos.

If your into embossing, I'm sure you will already have one of these...

VersaMark is a must for any scrapbooker, of any experience level.There so many different things you can use it for, but today I am displaying it's most basic Watermark technique.

It is as simple as dabbing your stamp into the sticky pad and stamping away.

Here is my layout....

Ingredients Used:

Stamps: Big Deal Alphabet, Calender Alphabet & Numbers

Ink: Versamark

Cardstock: Kraft

Designer Series Paper: Kaleidoscope (Summer Mini)

Accessories: Stampin' Write Marker (Not Quite Navy, Creamy Caramel), Brads, Embossing Power (clear), Hemp Twine, Paper Piercing Tool

Adhesive: Stampin' Dimensionals, Tombo Mono Glue

Baby book mini album

Hi all, one of my close friends recently announced she was pregnant. She is to be a first time mum and it got me to thinking, if she is anything like I was when I was pregnant she is bound to have preggo brain. Not to mention all the 'questions' you have and many new items you have to buy in preparation for the baby. This is how my baby book mini album came about.

The front page features weaved paper inside the baby sweet treat cup rattle as a delicate touch (just like newborns!)

 
Inside the 'book' is 4 sections to store information; appointment cards, questions to ask, receipts and ultrasound pictures.

Stamps: Vintage labels (sale-a-bration), somethings sweet (summer mini catalogue)

Ink: Close to cocoa, riding hood red, pink pirouette, sahara sand, versamark

Cardstock: Very vanilla, pink pirouette, riding hood red

Designer Series Papers: Bella rose, washington apple, candy lane

Punches: Wide oval, 1 3/4" circle (summer mini catalogue), eyelet border, corner rounder

Accessories: 5/16" jumbo neutrals brads (carried over from spring mini catalogue), sweet treat cups (summer mini catalogue), very vanilla taffeta ribbon, button bouquet, clear embossing powder

Scrapbooking with your Sale-a-bration stamps

I love it when Sale-a-bration hits us, not only do the customers get an awesome deal but as a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, we too can get those amazing free sets.

Today I want to show you a layout made with the Vintage Labels, Sale-a-bration set

Don't you just love that set??

To create this background paper was simple and fun!!

You will need:

Glossy White Paper (page 130 Ideas Book & Catalogue)

Ink Refills

Colour Spritzer Tool

Small spray bottle with water

Apply a couple drops of different inks around your sheet of Glossy paper.

Spritz a few times with the water (not too close or too many, as this makes it run an awful lot).

Working quickly, grab your Colour Spritzer Tool, squeeze over the watered down drops of ink and watch them spread.

You can make the design go in all different directions depending on which angle you use the Colour Spritzer Tool.

This look is great fun teenage layouts and is fun for the kids to do also.

I would love it if you would give it a go...it is so much fun. But I would recommend putting some extra scrap paper behind your layout incase it seeps through.

Ingredients used:

Stamps: Vintage Labels (Sale-a-bration), Frames with a Fourish

Cardstock: Glossy White, Pretty in Pink, Whisper White

Inks/Refills: Basic Grey, Pretty in Pink, Pink Passion, Tempting Turquoise, Night of Navy

Punches: Scallop circle, Curly Label, Wide Oval, 1 1/4 Circle 1 3/4 Circle (summer mini)

Accessories: Stampin Write Journaller, Uniball Signo Gel Pen (white)

Tools: Colour Spitzer Tool.

February Guest Designer - Layout #2

First day of school

My eldest daughter recently had her first day of school. I had lots of photos and wanted to included as many as possible without the layout looking overwhelmed. I used the leftover chipboard frame which is the same recycling and cost saving approach I used when creating this layout.

I also had Nikki write "Nikki's" so they layout reads "Nikki's first day of school". I treasure her handwriting (as she used to write her name as Niffi). She was also skeptical about writting the "s" on the end of Nikki's as she had never written it before and I am so proud of her effort.

 

I coloured my chipboard letters in using night of navy marker before using a sponge dauber to apply a darker layer of ink. (I have previously tried inking letters with only a sponge dauber and inkpad but wasn’t happy with the result.)

With my daughter’s school dress, she received a “scrunchie” hair elastic made from the same fabric as her uniform. I cut the scrunchie up to add to my layout (thankfully she has a spare one so I won’t have to hear her wailing that I cut up her ONLY hair elastic!)

Cardstock: Bravo burgundy, whisper white

Accessories: loads of letters chipboard, lots of letters chipboard (chipboard frame), crystal effects, night of navy stampin’ write marker

Flowers... on a boy layout???

Flowers... on a boy layout? Yes, you read right. I usually find it hard to incorporate flowers (and pink) onto a male layout. However, this photo made it easy for me. Not only are there flowers on my son’s shorts but also a pink ball in the foreground. In embracing these “traditional” feminine features is how I came up with today’s layout.

Note: I have had a few questions asking how I did the background and the flowers...

The background- it is a text typed onto watercolour paper and coloured with so saffron inkpad and sponge dauber.

The flowers - technique called faux watercolouring. Stamp image in versamark (onto watercolour paper) and emboss with either white or black embossing powder. Spray watercolour paper with a few sprays of water and using an aqua painter and re-inkers pick up the colour of the re-inkers and touch the watercolour paper (with the aqua painter). As soon as the aqua painter touches the watercolour paper the colour spreads. Repeat with various colours if desired. Allow image to dry and cut out image.

Ink: So saffron, sahara sand, versamark

Cardstock: Tangerine tango, pink passion, whisper white, watercolour paper

Punches: 1 ¼” circle, 1 3/8” circle, round tab

Accessories: Sherbet designer buttons (summer mini catalogue), linen thread, white embossing powder, tangerine tango re-inker, only orange re-inker

Other: Seed beads

Designer Series Paper

Here we are coming to the end of the month already and our last creation from Guest Designer Beth Stewart. It really has been a pleasure to share her work with you. We hope you have enjoyed it as much as we have.

This last layout really displays how beautifully our Designer Series paper really compliments each other, even when you are using many different packs.

Summer Mini Layout - Nature's Nest

There as so many awesome stamp sets and products in this years Summer Mini, something to please everyone!  If you haven't received a copy, please feel free to email one us and we will be happy to get one out to you.

When I saw Nature's Nest in the Summer Mini Catalogue, it was love at first site. There are so many possibilities with this set

 

I found the shell was perfect for this layout I created about our trip to the beach on Melbourne Cup Day.  I used it :

• As an embellishment

• As the background paper, I stamped the Jumbo Outline Alphabet over

I also  have a love affair with the Kaleidescope Designer Series Paper, it's so fun and full of life, not to mention, cute things to cut out and make into embellishment's of, in fact that's what the blogs header is currently made from.

As you can see that I take loads of photos everywhere we go, so I often have to capture the feel of the day with a double layout. There are 12 photos on this layout. What is the most you have used?? I would love to know

Making your own jounrnalling blocks - Part 2

I often try to think of different ways to journal on my layouts and I have found that Stampin' Up! punches are a great tool for this. Now you may be thinking you can not get much journalling on such a small shape, and that is true....so here's what I did to create my journalling block for the layout below.

It is as simple as grabbing some scrap cardstock and the Curly Label punch (any punch would be good, just have to use your imagination), Punching, in this case 6 labels and sticking them together with snail adhesive, lining up the curved sides to create a template. Now all you have to do is trace around the edges of your template, onto your desired paper and trim out the journalled block. Great thing is you can re use it, re shape it,whatever you like so you can use it on another layout.
