Baby book mini album

Hi all, one of my close friends recently announced she was pregnant. She is to be a first time mum and it got me to thinking, if she is anything like I was when I was pregnant she is bound to have preggo brain. Not to mention all the 'questions' you have and many new items you have to buy in preparation for the baby. This is how my baby book mini album came about.

The front page features weaved paper inside the baby sweet treat cup rattle as a delicate touch (just like newborns!)

 
Inside the 'book' is 4 sections to store information; appointment cards, questions to ask, receipts and ultrasound pictures.

Christmas card album tutorial

Have you ever wondered what to do with your pile of Christmas cards once all the Christmas festivities are over? Well, I have a solution to that problem.  I have a tutorial available for purchase that allows you to keep all the Christmas cards, photos and newsletters all in one place that is easy to go back and look at, year after year. It also have space to keep an name and address list along with a sample of the card you sent out. The tutorial also makes use of the stickers in the I wish simply scrappin' kit along with step by step instructions for some punch art creations.

The Christmas cards album is simple enough for a beginner right through to an experienced scrapbooker to create. Even kids could have a go!

To complete the album you will require some basic supplies: paper cutter, paper snips, sticky strip and snail. I also used an on board art journal, I wish Simply Scrappin' kit, a few stamp sets, ink pads and some other miscellaneous supplies. A full materials list is provided along with the step by step instructions.

December daily

For years, I have been thinking about creating a mini album full of photos and journaling about our family activities in December. (I have previously created a calender layout) but this year I actually bit the bullet and begun my December daily mini album.

I begun with a word document where I am journaling things for each day and when I get time to work on the pages, I slowly add to the album.

This entry I am showing you is from Day 2 of my album and it is on two different pages. One is a "peek a boo" style page and the other obviously has all the information on it.

Journaling reads:

Daddy finished overtime early and went to bed late while Josh was at school. Everyone else went to Grandpa’s so I could do some computer work while visiting. Nikki, Drew and Bella had fun riding bikes around Grandpa’s property and running around but most of all loved the warm weather and the time spent in his pool (outdoor spa). Raced home (minus Nikki who was having a sleepover) to pick Josh and Callum up from school, but was running late so woke up Daddy (via phone) to pick the boys up.

Recipe Book

I am meeting a long time friend from Canada in a weeks time in the US. She asked me to e-mail her some of my favourite recipes. Being the scrapbooker, I had to do something better than that! I made her a recipe album of some of my favourite recipes including some that are treasured from my childhood.

Mini Album, 29 things to do before 30

Today I want to show you my creation of an ongoing mini album that is going to be completed over various stages of my 29th year. Last month, I wrote a list of the things I wanted to achieve before I turn 30 and thus became the idea for my mini book. Obviously, I can't show you all the pages as many (okay most) are blank waiting for me to achieve my "targets" and take photos documenting them. I will be back with progress pages as they happen.

Simply Scrappin' Kit: Hoppy Memories

There are 7 Simply Scrappin' Kits in our current catalogue.  The 'Hoppy Memories' one was just perfect for some layouts about my son Jack for an album about 'Being Two!'

I grabbed out a stack of photos from the past year, my Simply Scrappin' Kit and got to work.  Here's the album cover page.

The kits are great.  They contain 6 sheets of 12" x 12" double sided patterned paper (3 each of 2 different pages, giving you 4 patterns to choose from.) 2 sheets each of 4 coordinating textured cardstock colours.  And 2 sheets each (15cm x 30cm) of self adhesive die cuts.

I especially love the border strip ones. I find the die cuts quite forgiving to use too, particularly on the textured cardstock.  They're nice and sturdy.  If I have a bit of an 'oops' moment when placing them, I can usually peel them off carefully and have another go.  (I'm a tad prone to oops moments to this is very handy!)

You can find the 7 different kits on pages 136 - 138 of the 2009/10 Idea Book & Catalogue.

For my 'Being Two' album cover, I also used some of our chipboard letters - On Board Loads Of Letters (pg 146.)  I coloured them red with a Stampin' Write Real Red Marker and then coated them with Crystal Effects for some shine.  Note: Don't forget to allow drying time before adding them to your layout.  I left mine overnight to be sure.

I've added some Real Red 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon to this one, along with my kit contents.  The journaling block and quote block die cuts from the Hoppy Memories Kit were handy for recording the story behind the photos.

Simply Scrappin' Kit: Hoppy Memories Pt 2

I've been using the Simply Scrappin’ Kit ‘Hoppy Memories’ (pg 138) for an album about my little boy Jack.

Our whole family became firm Masterchef followers while the first series was on and Jack (then 2) was a huge fan.

 

 

The kids love to help out with the cooking.  While they helped their dad make pizzas, I snapped some photos.  Love the close up on Jack’s hands kneading dough.  Don’t you find scrapbooking helps you see different things when you look through your camera lens! 

For the title I used some offcuts from other album pages.  When I’m using a kit like this I keep all my scraps together with the remaining kit contents – you just never know when they might come in handy on another layout.   I stamped the title using Schoolbook Serif Alphabet (pg 121) then flipped my Tag Punch (pg 152) over to punch out the tags.  (Hint:  Stamp first, then punch.  Makes it super easy then to have your letter placed just where you want it.)  Some Earth Elements brads (pg 149) coordinated well.

 

 

 

Once I started laying out my various elements I didn’t have much room for journaling so decided to make use of one of the journaling blocks from the die cut sheets in the kit for a quick little quote.  I used my Stampin’ ‘Write Markers in colours from the kit – Tempting Turquoise and Real Red. 

 

 

 

I did have some more details I wanted to include though, so decided to tuck a tag in behind the main photo. 

 

 

The journaling reads:

Masterchef Australia 2009: We’ve all gotten quite hooked on this TV series.  You’ve definitely been paying attention Jack!  When daddy or I are cooking you’ll stride into the kitchen and announce in a loud voice.  “You have thirteen minutes to cook, THIRTEEN MINUTES.”  When I get out the crate of plastic food and utensils, you busy yourself putting a plate together.  You put a plastic cover over ht top and bring it up to me.  With a flourish you remove the lid and announce, “It is  …… potatoes and pancakes!”  Sometimes you wander off saying, “I am still in the competition.”  You crack me up Masterchef Jack!

Now I’m by no means an expert, but I thought some step by steps for the hidden journaling might be handy for those new to scrapbooking.  To make a little extra space under the photo I stuck strips of cardstock along the top and bottom of the matting cardstock. 

 

 

I then ran some adhesive along these strips to attach the photo to the page.  I roughly cut out a tag and made sure it would slide in and fit between the strips, then headed to the computer to type up my journaling.  (I used Century Gothic font – a favourite of mine.)  After printing it I checked the sizing against my rough tag, adjusted the font size to fit better and then printed again onto Whisper White cardstock. 

 

All I had to do now was trim this down to fit and trim off two corners to make it ‘tag shaped.’  To ensure this was symmetrical I cut one triangle off, then flipped it and placed it on the opposite side and used it as a guide to trim that side to match. 

 

 

 Some border strips from the die cut sheets and a couple of brads dressed up the journaling tag a little.

And there’s plenty left in my Hoppy Memories Kit for another day’s scrapbooking.
