Distressed Circle-Button Flowers

Hello Everyone,

Di here again. I hope you all had a truly magical Christmas. Now that the craziness (and the food) have settled, it's time for another layout. This time I have caved into the ever increasing pressure from family and friends, to create a page about myself. I am starting small with an 8" x 8" layout of me as a 10 month old. I see that the pudge that we all find so cute on babies and that disappears in our more youthful years, seems to re-appear in our forties with far less fondness by self and others LOL!

In this layout I have presented some flowers which I have created using different sized circle punches, buttons, ribbons and a distressing tool. I hope you like it. Details explained below photo.

Spotlight on technique: Distressed Circle-Button Flowers

To create this look you will need to:

1) Start by punching out 3 different sized circles with circle punches using a range of Designer Series Papers to build up layers of colour and pattern.

2) Use a distressing tool to roughen the edges of the circles.

3) Glue the circles on top of each other (I used the two-way glue pen), starting with the largest on the bottom.

4) Punch two holes in the middle of the flowers (I used the Crop-a-dile tool) to attach the buttons to the flowers. Feed your ribbon through the holes in the flowers and the buttons and tie them in a knot at the back of the flowers.

5) Attach to layout using Pop-Up Glue Dots.

Card Stock: Confetti White & Ruby Red

Ink Pads: Chocolate Chip, Kiwi Kiss & Sahara Sand (sponge daubed around page edge)

Designer Series Paper (DSP): Bella Rose & Holiday Treasures

Chipboard: Batch of Blooms & Timeless Type

Embellishments: Pearls from Pretties Kit, New Small Grommets (Summer Mini), Ruby Red Brads, Black Gingham Ribbon, buttons from Button Bouquet pack and stitching on the sewing machine in soft pink thread.

Punches: 1-3/4", 1-3/8", 1-1/4" Circles & the Photo Corners punch.

Urban Oasis Designer Series Paper ...

This Urban Oasis Designer Series Paper from Stampin' Up! is a great paper for black and white photos, and suits many styles of photos, particularly boys.You get 12 coordinating double sided 12x12 papers in a pack for $16.95. This page is for an album of little bits of things I wish for my boys. The photos are all photos of them together with some journalling about each topic. I will do the journalling on a tag for this one and tuck it under the right side of the photo,

The matching colours for this Urban Oasis Designer Series Paper are Baja Blue, Kiwi Kiss, Basic Grey, Basic Black and Whisper White. It's a great versatile paper, and some of the sheets coordinate with the Fifth Avenue Floral stamp set from Stampin' Up!.

December daily

For years, I have been thinking about creating a mini album full of photos and journaling about our family activities in December. (I have previously created a calender layout) but this year I actually bit the bullet and begun my December daily mini album.

I begun with a word document where I am journaling things for each day and when I get time to work on the pages, I slowly add to the album.

This entry I am showing you is from Day 2 of my album and it is on two different pages. One is a "peek a boo" style page and the other obviously has all the information on it.

Journaling reads:

Daddy finished overtime early and went to bed late while Josh was at school. Everyone else went to Grandpa’s so I could do some computer work while visiting. Nikki, Drew and Bella had fun riding bikes around Grandpa’s property and running around but most of all loved the warm weather and the time spent in his pool (outdoor spa). Raced home (minus Nikki who was having a sleepover) to pick Josh and Callum up from school, but was running late so woke up Daddy (via phone) to pick the boys up.

Journalling with an unrelated photo

 Like most of us,  I journal about the activity in the photo, the place, the fun times had. But to me, Scrapbooking has also been such a release... a personal journal of my true self....so when I am dead and gone people can read through them and truly get to know me and the life I have lived.

When it comes to journalling, sometimes I don't have that photo that I have in mind for the thoughts I wish to put down. So I often look through my hundreds of yet to be scrapped photos to see if I can find one to fit the feeling.

For the last year I have been clucky.....yes nuts I know!.... and I just can't seem to shake this feeling.....I just had to get it down on paper to make sense of it all. So here I created a layout with a photo of my two kiddies...just an average day but a perfect photo (not the clearest) for the layout I wish to create.

"STILL GOT THAT CLUCKY FEELING"

I should be happy right?? Having one of each but there is something that keeps nagging me, telling me that one more would complete our family. I have been thinking this all year and hoped it would go away as Bryan is happy as we are and in so many ways I am too. I just can't ignore this urge. I toss it up, the changes that it would make, what we have now will be no more... no more dinners out or girls nights...JUST nappies, sleepless nights, crying!!....but then there would be that special little person in our lives and all the negatives wash away with that one single thought. Am I crazy? Maybe! Would I handle it? I would hope so! Will we do it? Time will only tell... I just wish if it isn't meant to be that these feelings would stop bothering me everyday.

There you go, now you all now me a little better, why don't you go and do that layout that you are afraid people to read...It may be scary, trust me I feel vulnerable right now but how else are people going to know know you unless your real.

Circle Scissors Scrapbook Layout

There's a new tool in the Summer Mini Catalogue - Circle Scissors.  I've been having lots of fun playing with it and now have circles and rings all over my craft desk.  I grabbed a handful to make this scrapbook layout.

I picked the colours to coordinate with a favourite photo of my daughter - Close To Cocoa, Pink Passion, Pretty In Pink, plus some Confetti White.  I used my spiral punch (pg 152) to add a little interest to the photo matting. 

I arranged my various rings and circles into an overlapping pattern (then rearranged them a few dozen times of course.)  My two way glue pen was handy for sticking down the narrow ones.  After they were all stuck down I trimmed off the excess with my trimmer.

I've used some of the self adhesive dies cuts from the Simply Scrappin' Kit "Sweet Nothings" as well. (You can find the kit on page 138 of your catalogue.)

Popping a few up die cuts up with Stampin' Dimensional foam tabs adds an extra bit of dimension.  

 

The Circle Scissors tool can cut circles up to 6 inches in diameter.  I love that you can cut an inner circle then wind the blade out a little without moving the tool or your paper and cut another larger circle to form a ring.  I love the glass mat too (also available in the Summer Mini.)  You get such nice cuts using a glass mat, I think I'll be using this a lot with my craft blade too.

Girls Layout - Sweet Alicia

Hello Everyone,

Di here again. I hope you're all enjoying our Stamp a Memory Site and that you're overflowing with ideas for your own Stampin' Up! pages because of what you have seen here. That is why we are here, after all.

Today I have something you don't see from me very often and that is a girls layout. With my two boys you would be absolutely right in assuming that the majority of my layouts are going to be boy based. However, my sister-in-law gave me this lovely photo of my beautiful niece Alicia so I took it as a wonderful opportunity to do a girls layout and I've had a fantastic time making it.

Spotlight on technique: Creating patterned letters with stamps & ink

I have created the name "alicia" on my layout in a way you may not have seen before or perhaps have seen but not tried yet yourselves. It's a way of making your own patterned alphabet letters, (which you can cut out and stick to your page), using stamps and ink.

What to do: Choose a stamp, for your background, that has good coverage and stamp as many images as you have letters in your title, with the ink of your choice, onto Whisper White card stock. Try to use a stamp that is big enough to fit your alphabet stamps inside so that you don't have a broken pattern within your letter when you cut it out. In this case I have used one of the hearts from the NEW Sumer Mini set called 'I {Heart} Hearts'. I have stamped it six times in Pixie Pink ink onto my white cardstock. I have then taken the 'Jumbo Outline Alphabet' and inked the letters for 'alicia' in Old Olive ink and over-stamped them onto the heart patterns. Then with a fine pair of craft scissors I have cut out the letters and stuck them onto my layout using the two-way glue pen. It's a wonderful way to make co-ordinating paper if you would like an alternative to covering chipboard in ink or Designer Series Paper.

Designer Series Paper (DSP): Dotted pink paper from the 'Petal Party - Simply Scrappin Set' and the NEW 'Tall Tales' paper from the Summer Mini. I cut sections of it out to do the clouds, the hot air balloon and the hills with the birds on them.

Embellishments:Felt Flowers from both the 'Flower Fusion' & 'Flower Fusion Too' tin sets, Rhinestone brads in pink and blue from both the 'Circle Fire' & Circle Ice' packs, chipboard from both the 'Loads of Letters' & 'Timeless Time' packs which I have covered in 'Crystal Effects' and sprinkled with 'Fine Supernova Olive Glitter' to create the SWEET part of the title. I've then finished off with some distressing and some stitching on the sewing machine in pink thread around the edges.

Tools: Sanding Blocks (to refine edges of chipboard before decorating), fine craft scissors, two-way glue pen & Pop-Up Glue dots (to attach flowers).

Simple birthday thanks stamp

Today I have created a mini layout (6 x 6) for my SIL to hang on a frame my hubby made for her. It is part of an overall display of layouts for her to change ever so often to vary the pictures in her home. The photo is of my niece on her first birthday look a little overwhelmed at all the attention etc. Hence the reason for no journaling.

When I got my simple birthday thanks stamp, I actually took a craft knife to it *gasp!* Yes, I know I was attacking a perfectly good stamp. I cut the wording saying "thanks..." out so that I can stamp the stamp without have to mask or use markers to on ink the cake shape. I will use it more often this way than if I had of left the wording in.

Cutting the rubber and "modifying the stamp" DOES VOID that 90 return policy that Stampin' Up! offers with their products.

I have crimped the base of the cupcake to make it look like a patty pan wrapper and add dimension to the layout. Raising the "icing" with stampin' dimensionals and applying a layer of crystal affects to the cherry also helps add to the realism of the cake.
