Double layouts with Stampin' Up!

With the birth of the digital camera, we seem to be taking so many more photos than we used to with our film ones, don't you think? Especially on those special days, those milestone moments that we wish to hold on to ever so tightly... as they seem to just be flying past. As we skim through our photos, it can be very hard to choose just one. A lot of the layouts in magazines are normally that ONE perfect photo, of a gorgeous child.... beautiful but not a moment to remember as such. 

As scrapbooking is about remembering life's moments I think it's really important to scrap even the non photographer style photos...the real life ones, the ones that matter most.

Double layouts are awesome as they can capture the true essence of the moment, because you can fit so much on to them!!

Here I have created a simple layout of my daughters Third birthday. As you can see, the photos aren't perfect but they still make me smile, remembering how excited she was.... I managed to fit in 7 photos, with a little trimming, yet it doesn't feel like it is over crowded at all, to me at least ha ha.

Products I have used are:

STAMPS: A Little Birthday Cheer

INK: Whisper White Craft ink

CARDSTOCK: Whisper White, Basic Grey Textured

PAPERS: Raspberry Tart Designer Series

RIBBONS:  Satin Ribbon ( Kiwi Kiss)

EXTRAS: Corduroy Button and Brads (Kiwi Kiss and Basic Grey), Clip Assortment, Designer Buttons (Button Bouquet), Clear Rhinestone Brads, On Board So Tweet (hearts), On Board Timeless Type, Crystal Effects, Uni-ball Signo Gel Pen (White), Sahara Sand Stampin' Write Marker.

TOOLS USED: Corner Punch, Eyelet Border punch

ADHESIVES: Glue Dots (for the buttons), Sticky strip (for the ribbon) and Tombo Mono Glue (for the paper and photos).

EXTRAS: White paint

I also bit the bullet and used my stash of buttons and brads and chipboard. Stampin' Up has such an amazing range, that I find that I get so "attached" to all those beautiful things that sometimes I am too afraid to use them...but I challenge you to crack them open and give them a whirl... Here is a close up of some.

You don't have to spend all evening either sewing all your buttons on. I find they look just as nice just stuck down with a couple of Glue Dots...they work wonders, ever so sticky!

So there you have it. Double layouts are fantastic for using up all those photos you have laying around, whether is be old school or digital. Why not whip one up tonight??

Stampin' Up! Inks: Part Two - Craft Ink

Did you catch Part One - Classic Inks?  You can find that article here if you missed it.

Today I'm going to tell you a bit about Stampin' Up! Whisper White Craft Ink.

 
  
Craft Inks are a thicker pigment ink.  Stampin Up! have a white craft ink - I love it.  It looks especially stunning on dark colours. This ink dries on top of the cardstock and thus you need to allow longer for it to dry.  (You can speed this up with a quick zap with the heat tool if you are in a hurry!)  Doesn't it look good on Night Of Navy cardstock.

The White Craft Ink Pad does not have a fabric cover like the Classic Ink Pads.  More pigment is needed to ensure opaqueness, so the cover was omitted to ensure good ink coverage. 

A Whisper White Craft Ink Pad is $13.95 and makes a great addition to your ink collection.  (Pg 127.)

 
 

Craft Ink Tips:

If you find your Craft Ink Pad is a little too 'juicy', try storing it upside down for a time. 

Occasionally your Craft Ink Pad may benefit from a quick rub with the back of a spoon to ensure the ingredients stay mixed.

You can also use craft ink for embossing.  Stamp with the craft ink, add your embossing powder then use your heat tool.

An Adult Birthday Layout

To me it is so easy to make a children's birthday layout. So many fun colours and styles at your disposal. But when it comes to adults, you can sometimes get a tad stuck.

I have always believed that the main focus to a scrap book page should be the photo, so with that in mind I do not like to over crowd it with too many bits and pieces..

Here I have created a very simple adult birthday layout that anyone can do, using the following items...

STAMPS: Lovely Letters Alphabet, A little Birthday Cheer

CARDSTOCK: Sahara Sand Textured, Old Olive, Whisper White

PAPER: Haiku Designer Series Paper

INK: Old Olive

RIBBON: 5/8 Striped Grosgrain Ribbon - Tangerine Tango.

ACCESSORIES: Basic Grey and Old Olive Stampin' Write Markers, On Board So Tweet (Chipboard), Crystal Effects, Tombo Mono Glue

TOOLS USED: Stamp-ma-jig, Corner Punch

So there you go. Simple yet it still draws the eye. Scrapbooking can be very intimidating to a beginner. But it doesn't have to be. With Stampin' Up!, everything you need is right at hand......

all you need is a little time and your imagination.

More punch art

Today I want to show you my layout with yet another one of the quotable moments from my son Josh. There are some very foggy mornings at our home and one day, 2 years ago my son declared "it's froggy and dusty outside" (after hearing my mother and I discussing the fog.) I made a note of this "quotable moment" in a mini book I use for journaling and it has taken me till now to scrap it.

 

Materials used:

Stamp sets: Simple serif alphabet and numbers, All in the family

Ink: Basic black, baja breeze, old olive, kiwi kiss

Cardstock: Basic black, baja breeze, old olive, kiwi kiss, kraft, whisper white

Punches: 1 1/4" circle, 1 3/8" circle, 3/4" circle, 1/2" circle, large oval, wide oval, flower trio

'My Man' - Adult Male Layout

Hello Fellow Scrapbookers,

Today I have an adult male layout to show you. I know that often people feel it's difficult to produce male pages because many scrapbooking products are quite flowery and girlie. I am hoping to convince you otherwise with this page by showing you just one way you can use Stampin' Up! products to great advantage to capture those special male moments in your lives.

Meet my husband Paul - the big 40 hit him in September this year and I couldn't let that milestone pass by without a photo memory!

Here's what I've used:

Card Stock: Sahara Sand Textured 12 x 12, Whisper White and Garden Green.

Ink Colours: Basic Black, Craft Whisper White, Garden Green, Sahara Sand and Chocolate Chip.

Designer Series Paper: Selection from Urban Oasis Pack.

Stamp Sets: Friends 24-7 and Inspired by Nature.

Chipboard Letters & Hearts: Lots of Letters.

Brad:Designer Brad Star set (silver brad dipped in Versa Mark ink pad and embossed with White embossing powder).

Glitter: Chocolate Fine Supernova (applied on hearts with two-way glue pen).

Tools: Brayer rolled in Craft Whisper White Ink and rolled across background for layered effect, sponge daubers to smudge around all the edges in Sahara Sand ink, Crystal Effects to coat the 'man' letters, distressing tool to roughen edges and I have also used the sewing machine to do all the black stitching.

Recipe Book

I am meeting a long time friend from Canada in a weeks time in the US. She asked me to e-mail her some of my favourite recipes. Being the scrapbooker, I had to do something better than that! I made her a recipe album of some of my favourite recipes including some that are treasured from my childhood.

Circle Circus layout - First Steps

Stampin' Up! Circle Circus stamp set is such a fun versatile set to work with. It's perfect for scrapbooking and cards and has so many uses. It also coordinates perfectly with lots of our circle punches. Here I have used it on a layout about my son's first steps (every Mum has one of those pages right?).

I have stamped some of the circles, and then others I have embossed on coloured cardstock using white embossing powder. The stamped title was done using our Defining Alphabet set (I mounted it differently to separate the upper and lower case which increases the versatility of this set). I really love this simple font and it's a great size for scrapbook pages.

The colours I have used here are Sahara Sand, Riding Hood Red and Not Quite Navy. I have added a few Riding Hood Red buttons from our button bouquet.

Heritage Layout - 'Mrs. Watt Nanny'

Hello Lovely Scrapbookers,

As I mentioned in my Bio, I do occasionally like to dabble in a little heritage style scrapping. The layout I am presenting today is particularly suited to this style of scrapbooking as I've used a black & white photo of my grandmother. We used to call her 'Mrs. Watt Nanny' - hence, the title of the page. I have used one main stamp set for this page - 'A Rose is a Rose' and added a couple of extra little details by using the 'Bella's Border' wheel to create patterned ribbon and one of the birds from the 'Spring Song' stamp set, which I have painted with the water colour crayons . I've gone for a softer effect by using mainly the plum colours from the 'Soft Subtles' colour family. Once again, you can see the versatility of Stampin' Up!'s beautifully co-ordinated products.

I hope this page gives you some inspiration (see Page Recipe below photo). Creating it certainly brought back some lovely memories of my grandmother for me.

Layout Recipe

Stamps:'A Rose is a Rose' (pg 78 IBC AU$66.95), 'Bella's Border' wheel (pg 78 IBC AU$11.95) and 'Spring Song' (pg 79 IBC AU$26.95).

Card Stock:'Pale Plum' 12 x 12 textured card stock for main page, 'Perfect Plum' for the outer mounting of the photo, 'Confetti White' for the inner mounting of the photo and the title/journalling panels and lastly, I've used 'Water Colour' paper for the little bird.

DSP:A strip of one of the neutral papers from the 'Bella Bleu' pack.

Ink Colours:'Pale Plum' & 'Perfect Plum' for the roses. 'Perfect Plum' for colouring the chipboard 'Mrs' title and for running the 'Bella's Border' wheel over the 9.5mm 'Twill Tape' to create a patterned ribbon. I've used 'Mellow Moss' for all the rose petals and stems. 'Sahara Sand' inked onto a sponge dauber to smudge around every detail of the page, the flowers included. I've also used 'Staz On Black' to stamp the bird before watercolouring as it is waterproof.

Something to note about the 'A Rose is a Rose' set is that it is what we call a 'TWO STEP' stamp set. This means that there are two stamps required to make up a completed image. In the case of the rose I have done the first layer in a paler colour and then stamped the second layer in a darker colour, over the top of the first, to bring out the details of the flowers. The leaves are done the same way, only I've used just the one ink colour. By waiting for the first application of ink to dry properly and then going over it with the detail stamp, twice, in the same colour, you get a lovely soft tone on tone effect. The Two Step process works best when done with the 'Stamp-a-ma-jig' tool.

Spotlight on Technique - Two Step Stamping 

Embellishments:Decorative beads and pin from the 'Pretties' Kit (pg 149 IBC AU$55.95), 'Twill Tape' (pg 150 IBC AU$11.50), chipboard lettering from the 'On Board Timeless Type' set (pg 147 IBC AU$23.95).

Other:Water colour crayons in 'Pale Plum' & Perfect Plum' (to paint the little bird) from the 'Soft Subtles Water Colour Wonder Crayons' set, 'Stampin' Dimensionals' for raising the flowers off the page and I have also used the distressing tool the create the roughened edges on all the papers.

Punches:'Eyelet Border' (pg153 IBC AU$30.95)

Baby layout featuring Parisian Breeze Speciality Paper

My youngest is 18 months old.  The other day the delightful little treasure emptied a homemade juggling ball that was filled with rice all over the carpet in his big brothers' room.  He was so delighted with his efforts that he tattled on himself immediately afterwards.  I couldn't help chuckling to myself but it also made me stop and reflect on just how much he has grown up.  You blink and an innocent little newborn turns into a mischievous mess-making toddler.

I felt compelled to flick through those photos of him as a newborn bub and decided I would scrap a photo that I have been meaning to do for a long time!  Wasn't he just so precious!? (He still is!)

I have used the absolutely divine "Parisian Breeze Specialty: Designer series paper.

On previous layouts you have seen me use lots of Chipboard letters.  I often coat the letters in ink and then a layer of Crystal effects but today I kept it simple.  I left the chipboard letters in their raw state and simple stamped on them using the gorgous flourish from the "Baroque Motifs" Stamp set.

Cleaning your Rubber Stamps the Stampin' Up! Way

Hello Lovely People!

We all love stamping, right? But how many of us have found the cleaning aspect of stamping more than a little frustrating at times? No doubt, all of us! I bet we've all tried the baby wipes method and the windex on paper towel method and I'd hate to think what else! These methods are not only messy and time consuming but they can damage your rubber stamps and shorten their life expectancy because they don't nourish the rubber. When you spend your hard earned money on something, you want to make sure you get the very most out of it.

So today, I want to talk to you about cleaning your rubber stamps the Stampin' Up! way. Once you see how quick and easy it is, you'll be wishing you'd known about it sooner! Our cleaning method uses two products that work in conjunction with each other and these are:

STAMPIN' SCRUB  and  STAMPIN' MIST

1) Stampin' Scrub is a double sided, hinged container that is quite flat, very portable and comes with two textured pads inside. One is for cleaning your stamps, the other is for drying them. The textured pads are designed to get right into the grooves of your stamps.

2) Stampin' Mist is a cleaning and conditioning spray that you spray directly onto the cleaning side of the Stampin' Scrub. It is designed to remove the ink from your stamps and provide nourishment for the rubber.

Below I have included a brief tutorial on how to use these products. I say brief, because the entire process is super easy and super quick!

1) Open the Stampin' Scrub so that both sides are laying flat on your work surface. Take the spray bottle of Stampin' Mist and pump a couple of squirts directly onto the textured cleaning pad. If you are having a bit of a stamping session then there is no need to do this every single time you are about to clean - if the pad still feels damp then you can wait a little longer to re-spray:

2) Take your inked, used rubber stamp and rub it gently back and forth over the sprayed cleaning pad. A few times is enough to remove all the ink:

 

3) The next step is to dry off the stamp on the other textured mat:

4) Your stamp is now ready to put away for use another time or to be used straight away in a different ink colour. No waiting required!

The other great features of the Stampin' Scrub/ Mist system are: 

1) That the pads can be removed for easy cleaning in warm soapy water. They can just dry in the dish-rack like a plate would!

2) Replacement pads can be purchased for just $16.95 for a set of two (I have not had to do this as yet because my originals are still going strong after 18 months of constant use).

3) You can also buy a refill bottle of Stampin' Mist for just $16.95 and this has enough product in it to fill your original spray bottle a whopping four times.
