Five Ways Stay at Home Mums can build their business skills and earn and income from a low outlay online home based business.

Hm-blog-banners2-13

First, let me tell you my story ....

This is me, in 2006, with my two beautiful children.

They had both taken a while to conceive (the first over 3 years), which to me gave me a feeling of wanting to hold on tighter (although I now know every parent holds on that tight). Up until having children my employment had been a big part of my life. I had worked in state Health Departments in both practitioner and management positions in nutrition and health promotion, as well as in the Anti Cancer Council and Heart Foundation.  I loved those jobs, worked hard and had developed great skills in many areas. But then came children.

I am sure that every Mum (and probably many Dad's) have that feeling that nothing else matters once their children come along. That deep feeling of wanting to be there to help them grow and develop  and navigate their way in their early years before they start school. I just don't think I was prepared for the depth and strength of those feelings.

We don't all have the luxury of being able to manage on one income (my family certainly didn't), so it can be a real dilemma about what to do with work. I tried to go back to work part time. Work at that stage was my own private practice as a Dietitian. I could set my own hours as I owned the practice, but it also meant hiring more staff which meant more work behind the scenes. It also meant leaving the home, which meant juggling child-care (and a few arguments with my husband about who's work was more important when one of my children were unwell and couldn't go to childcare - I am sure many can relate).

In late 2006, my world came crashing down when my brother died suddenly. The grief exacerbated my working mum's exhaustion and I just wanted to hold on even closer to my children, having lost a family member who I adored and had grown up with. I needed a break from my practice, and decided to take one years leave to have some time at home with my children just enjoying them and life. Scrapbooking was a really important part of my relaxation and therapy at this time. I had started scrapbooking in 2002 when my first child was 6 months old. I loved it, but during the time after my brothers death it was even more important to me. I journaled about my children, my brother and how much I missed him and also about my life (so it was written down for my own children). This time was so healing for me.

It didn't take long for my entrepreneurial streak to raise it's head again though. I had enjoyed using stamps in my scrapbooking, and one day came across an advertisement for Stampin' Up! in Creating Keepsakes magazine. It had only been in Australia about 6 months and I loved the products, so bought the kit to save some money on some stamps.

That was 10 years, 2 months and 3 days ago.

I didn't really intend for any of this to happen, but in that time I have built a thriving business entirely from home, which exceeds the income I was earning in healthcare. It's not the money though. It is HOW I have been able to do that which has been the greatest gift to my family. It just suited us so perfectly (no more child care arguments) and most of all. met my needs to have something for myself and to to be continually learning new things and building on my business and employment related skills.

All for the price of my Stampin' Up! Starter kit (which at $329 back then was more expensive than it is now at just $169).

If you and your family are looking for a way to add a second income, DON'T dismiss direct sales, and Stampin' Up! You honestly can have this for your family if you are prepared to do the work around your children's needs. The cool thing is that it can also grow in size as your children become more independent.

Work from home for just $169 outlay

So here are my 5 ways Stay at Home Mums can build their business skills and income with a low outlay online business.

One

First you need to purchase our Starter Kit, which is just $169. That will give you products to play with, but also importantly you get Catalogues of our gorgeous coordinated quality stamps and papercraft supplies. People LOVE these products, I remember people telling me in the early stages of my business that these products sold themselves. They DO! This is all the very basics you need to get started. If you are building a business, I recommend you get your Starter Kit from a demonstrator who has done what you are wanting to, especially when it comes to building the business around a family. That's so important as there is no point trying to duplicate something that someone has done who doesn't have that need, or is working 7 days a week day and night. I can help you of course, and you can read all the reasons why HERE. Importantly you DON'T need to be an expert papercrafter! I had never made a card when I started, and it's more about having a can do attitude and being prepared to work that will make you successful.

Two

Because you want to work from home (or maybe supplement another full time job) I strongly recommend our company maintained online store (yes company maintained!). You get your very own Online Stampin' Up! store (see mine HERE) where people can go to to place an order with you. When you first join, you get this free for 2 months. After that it's just $19.95 a month. That's basically the commission on one average order, so it easily pays for itself. You can be doing the school run, doing reading in class, shopping for groceries and your customers can still be placing orders in your online store.

Three

You will develop great skills in Social Media. or build on ones you already have (hey - who doesn't already have Pinterest or Instagram browsing or chatting on Facebook skills?). What we do is so beautifully visual (and if you don't create your own projects to start with, the company gives you LOTS of fabulous images you can use in social media through their great Demonstrator website). People are really int DIY these days and want to see beautifully visual creations. So while the children are having a nap, or the kids are at school, you can be sharing images of our beautiful products and creations on Social Media, and answering questions or chatting to customers. We provide training in setting up your pages, and my team even has a dedicated Blog and Social Media help forum, as well as ongoing training and social media tips. I had no skills in social media before I started. Now I have a Facebook Business Page, Pinterest and Instagram. You don't have to worry about any of that spammy stuff - I mentor my team members to act respectfully on social media.

Four

You will develop great skills in online selling and the internet sales cycle. Internet selling is my thing (I am one of the biggest Australian online sellers with Stampin' Up! and was blogging even before I started with the company). I do team training on blogging and selling online, and we also have a dedicated Blog and Social Media support blog. So on the days you aren't working on social media, you might find yourself writing a blog post and tweaking it with some tips I give you. I have been known to write blog posts and social media posts in the car waiting for school pick up. Our mobile devices make running an online business so easy.

Five

You will also develop great skills in business management and planning for success. I've learned a lot about direct sales in the 10 years I have been with this company and my biggest goal in my business is to pass that onto my team members so you can duplicate that success. That is what direct sales is all about, helping people to do what you do with selling quality products. You can practice goal setting and planning and tracking your success - all valuable skills to develop. You can choose how little or how much training and practice you want in this area. I offer weekly newsletters, 2-3 training events a month and 1 on 1 coaching calls, so you choose a little or a lot!

Honestly, that's all you need to get started on your journey with me - $169. There is so much I haven't even touched on in terms of the skills you can use and develop, and the ways that you and your family will benefit. I just wanted to touch on the basics here though, so you can take on more as your business grows and or your children become more independent.

Want extra value? There is up to $179 extra value in the starter kit for MARCH ONLY. You could end up with up to $414 worth of product in your Starter Kit, and I can help you choose. You need to sign on by March 31st for that deal though.

As my experience has shown, this isn't just something fun to do for a while. This can be something GREAT for your family. Extra income, a bit of pocket money for a retiree, a family holiday. Imagine the possibilities.

Ready to have an obligation free chat? I promise I won't share your details with anyone else.

Just submit this form with your details and I'll give you a call. You can also email (cdaly@bigpond.net.au) or text me (041 212 0498).

Don't need a chat and ready to just jump in? It's quick and easy to join online!

Here are the steps:

  1. go to my online join up page (CLICK HERE)
  2. read through the demonstrator and online agreement and check the box to acknowledge
  3. choose your starter kit and then choose products up to the value of your kit which is $235  (you cant go over, it has to be up to so it's a good idea to make some notes of what you want first and work out the totals. I'm happy to help with ideas.).
  4. During Saleabration (4th Jan to 31st March you also get to add 2 FREE stamp sets of your choice which adds up to $179 value to your kit!)
  5. fill in your personal details and pay the $169 for your starter kit by credit card.

You will then get your demonstrator number and invitation to join Stamping Connections, the online demonstrator community. I'll personally send you the details about how to get onto our team groups.

Stampin' Up! Reverse Words for Saleabration 2017 - Four Ways!

Hello there. Today I am showcasing one of the recently released extra Stampin' Up! Saleabration items, the Reverse Words stamp set. Here's four ways to use this stamp set.

For the first two cards, I have teamed it with the Mixed Drinks stamp set (see links below) - it has some great images and sentiments which match the cheers theme! I particularly love this sentiment. My colours here are Smoky Slate and Sweet Sugarplum with Basic Black. I love how the Reverse Words stamp sets so cleverly combines the watercolour wash look with the crispness of the reverse word.

Stampin Up Reverse Words (Saleabration 2017) and Mixed Drinks stamp set. Card by Claire Daly, Stampin Up Demonstrator Melbourne Australia

For this card, I have made a cocktail using lots of stamps from the Mixed Drinks stamp set (so easy to line up with the photopolymer). Another great greeting to match the cheers theme. My reverse word is stamped in Sweet Sugarplum and I have used Mint Macaron, Melon Mambo and Crushed Curry on the cocktail.

Stampin Up Reverse Words (Saleabration 2017) and Mixed Drinks stamp set. Card by Claire Daly, Stampin Up Demonstrator Melbourne Australia

This one is a birthday card which was super easy to make. I just punched a couple of balloons from the Bermuda Bay Glimmer Paper using the Balloon Punch. The greeting is from the Custom Tee stamp set. I just made the balloon strings using a Project Life marker. My ink colour here is Mint Macaron.

Stampin Up Reverse Words (Saleabration 2017) birthday card by Claire Daly, Stampin Up Demonstrator Melbourne Australia

I've needed lots of these cards for my awesome team and their promotions this month. It was quick and easy to create. The sentiment is from the Mixed Drinks stamp set and the reverse word is in Mint Macaron again. I used the Medium Star Punch to cut a star from the Sweet Sugarplum glimmer paper and attached some silver sequin trim.

Stampin' Up! Tasty Trucks Saleabration 2017 Stamp Set

One of my favourite childhood memories was visiting the beach with my family. At the end of a fun, sandy day (and often a dumping or two by the waves) we would grab an ice cream from the Mr Whippy van and head back to the car for the drive home. As soon as I saw the tasty Trucks Saleabration 2017 stamp set, it evoked those memories, so I decided to turn my truck into a Mr Whippy ice cream van.

The seagulls were borrowed from another stamp set, High Tide from the Occasions catalogue (link at the bottom of the post). I made the custom greeting using my vintage typewriter and the image is watercoloured in Blushing Bride, Basic Grey and Smoky Slate. The patterned paper is from the neutrals Designer Series paper stack (I use this a lot!).

Some farmyard fun with Stampin' Up! Hey Chick for Saleabration 2017

Chooks and a tassle. Whoever thought you would see that one one of my creations this year? Enter the new Stampin' Up! set Hey Chick, which is one of this years free offerings with a $90 order during Saleabration.

I was born and bred in the country and raised on farms. I have lots of memories and funny stories about the farm chookpen, like when the rooster chased my brother out of the chookpen and he accidentally flattened my sister (who was shaken but ok) on the other side of the 'just propped up with string' chook pen gate. We still laugh about that. So when I saw Hey Chick, I could definitely see the humour.

Stampin' Up! Hey Chick Stamp Set for Saleabration 2017. Card by Claire Daly, Stampin Up Demonstrator Melbourne Australia

I watercoloured each of the chooks (using Daffoldil Delight, Calypso Coral and Early Espresso) and then fussy cut them to layer a little. I've use a base of Tip Top Taupe, and the paper / embellishments are from the Cupcakes and Carousels product suite in the 2017 Occasions Catalogue.

Stampin' Up! Avant Garden: One of the free Salabration 2017 choices with a qualifying order

Today we are having a look at Avant Garden, another of the free sets you can earn with Stampin' Up! during Saleabration 2017.  I really like this set, and it's been a popular choice with the mix of sentiments and abstract / realistic floral images. I really like the font on the sentiments, and it is photopolymer for great layering.

My card is a loose interpretation of one on the front colour of the Saleabration brochure as I really liked the colours that were used.

Today's colours are Flirty Flamingo, Peekaboo Peach and Mint Macaron, with Whisper White. I have stamped some of the images off to give a multi shade effect. Flirty Flamingo is fast becoming one of my very favourite colours!

Stampin' Up! Project Life Hello December 2016 Christmas Cards

Love love love the colours in this years Stampin' Up! Project Life Hello December Card Kit and matching Accessory Kit (both on special for 30% off this week). As well as being perfect for December Daily albums, they are also great for general Christmas scrapbooking. They also make fabulous elements for Christmas Cards. Here's a bunch of  cards I whipped up last night.

Stampin' Up! Project Life Hello December 2016 Christmas Cards by Claire Daly Stampin' Up! Demonstrator Melbourne Australia

Let's look at each card individually. This first card was super simple! The base is out 12x12" kraft cardstock, and I have stamped a few stars on it with Crumb Cake ink. I then just added strips of Candy Cane Lane washi tape, cut out the circle from one of the 3x4" cards and popped it on the card with Dimensionals. The little tree is from the accessory pack and has been coloured with a Bronze Sharpie.

Stampin' Up! Project Life Hello December 2016 Christmas Cards by Claire Daly Stampin' Up! Demonstrator Melbourne Australia

For this second card (I think this one is my favourite), I just used 5 of the 2" x 2" cards in the accessory pack. The centre card is matted and then raised up with Dimensionals. I have used the largest square in the Stitched Shapes Framelits underneath the centre square. The greeting is from Christmas Magic in the Holiday Catalogue.

Stampin' Up! Project Life Hello December 2016 Christmas Cards by Claire Daly Stampin' Up! Demonstrator Melbourne Australia

For this one, I used Merriest Wishes background stamp in Cherry Cobbler onto Cherry Cobbler cardstock for the base. I then added one of the 3x4" cards attached with Washi tape. The stars on top of the tree are enamel shape stars coloured with a Bronze Sharpie. and the greeting is from Stitched with Cheer in the Holiday Catalogue. I have attached some Copper metallic thread under the greeting for some added texture.

For this one, I have used a 6x4" card as the second layer and then one of the printed transparencies from the card kit as a second layer. Then I have just popped on a couple of sticker banners from the accessory kit and a punched silver glimmer star. The smaller silver stars are from the accessory pack as well.

I just love the quote on this final card, it's so what Christmas is about to me. The second layer on this one is a 6x4" card, and the 3x4" card with the quote on is just attached with Candy Cane lane Washi tape. The circle greeting is from the accessory pack sticker sheet and it is on a very thin mat of Emerald Envy cardstock. I have also attached some Emerald Envy stars from the 2016-18 In Colour enamel shape pack.

Art With Heart Team Blog Hop: Showcasing Stampin' Up! Designer Series Paper on Sale

Team Blog Hop Logo 300px wideToday some of my Art with Heart Stampin’ Up! team girls are sharing some wonderful ideas to inspire you with our Designer Series Papers. This month is the start of the new Stampin' Up! year and we have a special promotion on our Designer Series Paper, buy 3 get 1 FREE for the month of October and there is no limit! You have come here from Rebecca Jacavou, one of the talented stampers on my team. Blogs are full circle so just keep hopping and there in a full list of participants at the end as well.

Dsp special

I am featuring the lovely Fruit Stand Designer Series paper. To be honest, this wasn't a paper that immediately caught my eye, but I received a small sample in a team product share and when I was looking for a paper to use for this card set, the bright colours really caught my eye and now I really like and have ordered a whole pack as part of the special so I can use more of it!

My project is a card box which holds four mini cards and envelopes. The box and envelopes are made using our Envelope Punch Board.

Mini card box and cards / enveloes made with Envelope Punch Box using Fruit Stand DSP by Claire Daly Stampin' Up! Demonstrator Melbourne Australia.

The box and envelope colour is Cucumber Crush and the card colour Flirty Flamingo which coordinate perfectly with the Fruit Stand DSP. The other colours featured in the DSP are Daffodil Delight, Peekaboo Peach, Pear Pizazz, Tangerine Tango, Watermelon Wonder and Whisper White.

The box holds four mini cards and handmade envelopes. The cards are 3.5" x 3.5" and the envelopes are made using the Envelope Punch Board starting with a piece of 6x6" DSP from the 2015-2016 InColour Paper Stack.

Mini card box and cards / enveloes made with Envelope Punch Box using Fruit Stand DSP by Claire Daly Stampin' Up! Demonstrator Melbourne Australia.

Here's some quick instructions to make the card box using the Envelope Punch Board.

Start with a piece of cardstock 8" x 8". Stamp on this if you wish. I have stamped some of the smaller images from Blooms and Wishes stamp set using Cucumber Crush ink.

Box 1

Place the top left corner at the 3.5" mark on the punch board. Score and punch.

Box 2

Move the top left corner I" to the left (to the 4.5" position) and score and punch again.

Box 3

Rotate the cardstock 90 degrees anticlockwise. You don't need to pay attention to the ruler at the top anymore, just line up each of the score marks and punch and score.

Box 4

Rotate and do this on the other two sides. Using a pair of paper snips, cut sideways on the bottom tabs so they fold inwards, and cut down on the top tabs so they fold downwards as shown.

Box 5

Use a bone folder to crease each of the scored lines, Apply adhesive to the outside of the bottom flap.

Box5a

Fold to close the side flaps over the bottom tab (place your bone folder inside the box and press down on a flat surface to apply pressure for better adhesion). The box closes with the addition of a belly band.

Box 6

Stampin' Up! Moroccan Designer Series Paper for a masculine Thinking of You handmade card.

Hello stampers. Happy Monday.

I have to tell you Emerald Envy has TOTALLY taken me by surprise and crept in to firmly cement itself as one of my few favourite Stampin' Up! colours at the moment. I'm also a big fan of Early Espresso, which is one of the reasons I am loving the Moroccan Designer Series Paper from the Stampin' Up! 2016 Annual Catalogue.

Stampin Up Moroccan Nights stamp set and Moroccan DSP. Masculine thinking of you card by Claire Daly Stampin' Up! Demonstrator Melbourne Australia

I found the images in the stamp set perfect for the masculine card I was making. I particularly love the border stamp and how it echoes the patterns on this piece of DSP.

For my masculine embellishments, I have used our Burlap Trim and Linen Thread together, and then used a Bronze Sharpie to colour some of the White Perfect Accents - this gives a great copper embellishment and copper is so on trend right now!

Love the classic Navy and White colour combo in the Floral Boutique Designer Series Paper from Stampin' Up! (on sale this month). It looks great with a pop of bright colour, but also suits a more subtle colour combination like I have used on today's birthday card.

Floral Boutique DSP and washi tape birthday card by Claire Daly, Stampin Up Demonstrator Melbourne Australia

It's been a while since I have pulled out my Elegant Butterfly punch, and I was reminded how simple it is to create a card using it. The Floral Boutique product suite also includes matching Washi tape, which makes coordinating the elements on this card an absolute breeze.

Stampin' Up! Wonder of Christmas and Candy Cane Lane DSP 2016 Christmas Card

Hello stampers :) Time to get out that beautiful angel in the Wonder of Christmas stamp set from the 2016 Holiday Catalogue again.

Wonder of Christmas 2016 Stampin Up Christmas card. Also uses Candy Cane lane DSP, Stitched with Cheer stamp set from the 2016 Holiday Catalogue, Watercoloring. Card by Claire Daly, Stampin' Up! Demonstrator Melbourne Australia

I have watercoloured her using Wisteria Wonder, Crumb Cake and Mint Macaron with a little Smoky Slate on the sash. I used Aquapainters and the ink inside the ink pad lid for my colouring. The Designer Series Paper I have used as the background layer, is from Candy Cane Lane. This DSP and a host of others are part of a promotion this month where you can buy 3 get one free, so be sure to check my online store for more details.

My greeting is from the Stitched with Cheer stamp set. I've used the gold bakers twine (from the bakers twine trio in the Holiday catalogue) between the angel and the doily. I like the weight of this better than the metallic thread. There's also some wink of Stella on the wings, but this is a little tricky to photograph.

Stampin' Up! Candy Cane Lane DSP meets Star of Light

I'm a big fan of using Stampin' Up! Designer Series Paper. It's the colour coordination with our inks and cardstock which first attracted me as a scrapbooker. No more searching for the perfect cardstock colour! It's also of course great for cardmaking for exactly the same reason.

Here's a card I have made using the Candy Cane Lane DSP from the 2016 Holiday Catalogue.

Stampin Up Candy Cane Lane DSP and Star of Light stamp set in this 2016 Christmas Card by Claire Daly Stampin Up Demonstrator Melbourne Australia at www.clairedaly.typepad.com

Cherry Cobbler and Early Espresso are a great colour combination and I love copper with it this year. The Candy Cane Lane DSP actually has Real Red, Crumb Cake, Early Espresso and Whisper White but it coordinates perfectly with these colours I think. I've also used the Coordinating Candy Cane Lane Washi Tape and some Cherry Cobbler twine.

Happy World Card Making Day and 2 new Stampin' Up! Specials for October

Cardmaking is pretty cool right? I mean we get great 'me time' while we are making the card and get to express our creativity, and then we get to pop that in an envelope and send (or give) those happy wishes in the card to someone else, so those good feelings happen all over again.

Before I started making cards, my card giving was limited to Christmas, birthdays, weddings and new baby's. I'm excited I have now had my eyes opened to so many other great reasons to send a card. Some of my favourite reasons to send a card are 'hello' or 'just because'. I think it's the unexpected nature of those cards that appeal to me as a sender. I also love to send thank you cards and congratulations cards (which I send a lot of with an amazing team like the one I have). There's so many reasons to send a card.

For 5 days only (October 1-5), Stampin' Up! have some great card-making items on special. Don't miss out on these great bargains.

You can shop them in my Online Store HERE.

WCMD

We also have a great Designer Series Paper deal this month. Buy 3 packs and get a 4th pack free. This is an awesome deal for scrapbookers and cardmakers.

Find this deal HERE in my online store.
